In Other News – Internet Marketing Recap 11-11-2011 to 11-18-2011

The biggest news this week is the massive stir in the Internet marketing community. This stir is caused by a recent bill (deemed the Stop Online Piracy Act or SOPA) being proposed to congress that could give power to the entertainment industry (and the government) to shut down and stop cashflow to websites that may have pirating links associated with them. There are arguments on both sides but 90% of the website-based communities are against it. This includes GIANTS such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, and many others. They argue that too much power is given to the wrong people and it violates free speech. The intention seems good at first, but the penalties associated are dire for small business startups in particular. Such censorship is actually akin to Internet laws in China.
