8 Must-Have Android Apps for Graphic Designers

For about a year, I was hooked to my iPhone and was pretty satisfied with the creative applications that were available for graphic designers, like myself. This year, I decided I needed a change, and I am a proud owner of the Droid Incredible! I couldn’t be happier. Although there aren’t as many apps in the Android Market as in the App Store for us designers, here are 8 extremely must-have apps:

Photography:

Vignette – Demo or Paid

This is the perfect app for taking artistic photographs. There are plenty of effects you can play with, like toy camera, Ilford (classic black and white), adding vignettes, lens effects, vintage options, and many more. However, with the demo version, you are limited to the lowest resolution. As I take a great deal of pictures, the paid version was well worth it.

Photoshop Express – Free
Boring photos need a bit of lift? Use Photoshop Express to do a basic quick fix — from cropping out unnecessary detail to toggling the contrast or exposure.

PhotoStitch– Free or Paid
Wish your Android phone could take panoramic shots? With the help of PhotoStitch, now it can! PhotoStitch allows you to take two to five side-by-side shots with the guidance of an on-screen bubble level so your pictures will be perfectly aligned. Voila! Instant panorama!

Flickroid – Free
Of course, after being pleased by all the awesome photographs you’ve achieved with the aforementioned apps, it is now time to reveal to the world your masterpieces. With Flickroid, you can effortlessly upload your pictures to Flickr. Prior to uploading, you can add titles, tags, toggle the privacy, and select which set to add the picture.

Color Palette Tool:

ColorPal – Free
Out of the ones available in the Market, this one is tried-and-true the best color palette tool out there. Choose a palette and select related colors to expand more palettes options. Hexadecimal code, RGB, and CMYK color values are conveniently located below the colors.

File Management:

ES File Explorer – Free
For managing your sketch and image files within your Android device and transferring files to and from your computer, ES File Explorer is the best way to go. Cut, copy, delete, multi-select, and other file managing options can be done easily.

Network:

PdaNet – Free or Paid
Perhaps one of the most popular Android app when on the go is PdaNet. It is the fastest tethering software available for Android. PdaNet allows your laptop to have complete connection to the Internet without having to root or hack your phone’s firmware.

Latest:

Autodesk SketchBook Mobile
Autodesk has just released SketchBook Mobile for Android! This powerful digital sketchbook is full of brush options, a layering capability, and even the ability to slide the opacity of the tool being currently used. SketchBook comes in handy when doing a quick outline of a logo, a wireframe, or if you so happen to forget your, well, sketchbook.

All apps are available in the Android Market.

I would also recommend Real Colors (http://bit.ly/pcbupA) an app that can automatically extract a color scheme from an image taken with the camera or from gallery

There is an app called “logo design” in the Android market, I think that could also be added in this list. By the way nice collection.
